The Daisies finished their insect exploration by releasing butterflies this week. The students started by placing their own caterpillars in tiny cups. Mushy food was added to the bottom and the munching of "very hungry" caterpillars began! The children watched the tiny creatures eat everyday and they got bigger and bigger until........Finally, the images of upside down chrysalises could be seen shaking and shimmering in preparation for their metamorphosis. The students were able to see the butterflies emerge and flap their wings as the color came out. The new butterflies drank sugar water until they were strong enough to fly free. Goodbye butterflies, we will miss you! |
