Since it was too cold to go on the roof, The Daisies decided to bring the snow into the class! Students helped to scoop snow into bins and then used pipe cleaners, googly eyes and potato head body parts to create their very own snow people. We can't wait for our next snowfall!
The Daisies welcomed the fall season by using their five senses to experience the world around our school. The students explored pumpkins, taking note of their different sizes and how they felt with and without paint. Next came gourds, that were used to create art on paper. The children examined the insides and were surprised by what they found! Magnifying glasses were utilized to get a closer look. Corn entered our classroom in mid November and little fingers were ripe for "shucking". There were even those who dared to take a tasty bite! After all the hard work, the cobs were rolled in paint to make corn prints on oak tag. Finally, with the colder weather fast approaching, the group took a walk around our school neighborhood to see and hear the sights. Some sounds came from "trucks", "birds", "cars", and even barking "dogs"! With bags in hand, our little explorers collected leaves and even sweet scented pines from branches on First Avenue. The Daisies worked together and brought their hard earned treasures back to class to add to the Touch Table. Goodbye fall, up next..........Winter! The Daisies shared ideas, thoughts, and stories in preparation for our Thanksgiving Feast. The students discussed their favorite foods which inspired our own classroom story "It's Thanksgiving Day" (to the tune of "Today is Monday" by Eric Carle). It culminated into a celebration of family, food and fun!
The Daisies Class welcomed grandparents and special visitors on Friday, October 20th. The students and guests used play dough to create Fall themed shapes. To add to the festivities, everyone read/sang the "Way Up High In a Tree" book that was written by The Daisies Class. To end the day, some guests even took a photo in our sparkly picture frame. Hip, hip, hooray for a fun filled day!
September was a busy month, as the children explored a variety of flowers in search of our class name. First, the students used their senses to see, touch and smell the many parts of a flower. Petals, stems and dirt were everywhere as our "little botanists" took to the task! Upon narrowing the choice between two: (daisies or lilies); the voting process began. Connecting cubes stacked up high, the children tallied their votes and "The Daisies" was the choice of the day! Through the creative process and "hands-on" learning, the class painted with green, brown, and blue tempera, ripped and crumpled tissue paper, poured sticky glue and even added real soil to their masterpiece. The result of all their hard work can be seen on our bulletin board and each daisy flower is "an original" just like the little hands that created them! |
